Create A Personal Home Spa
Here are 10 personal little home spa tips that will make you look and feel like a million bucks!
Squeeze in a few extra minutes to your every day self care time and you’ll see how easily these step by step pampering recommendations will turn even the toughest days around. Or if you can
negotiate a few minutes here and there from your day to get even more time…by all means… do it! Your family, friends and co-workers will meet a much happier, more chipper, fantastically refreshed you!
First things, first. No shopping, buying or leaving the house. Scour the house for a few fun spa essentials and make a decadent ‘Home Spa Day’ just with what you have tucked away! Why put off what you could be doing right now?! I suppose if you are out and about and feel so inclined to pick up special bath salts, moisturizers or essential oils… so be it. I admire your level of commitment!
- Grab your robe and slippers
- Find a soothing CD that you absolutely love
- Scented candle
- A washcloth, loofah, bath brush or a new scrubbie back there in the drawers you forgot about
- Fluffy cotton towel
- Bath salts or essential aromatic oils (if you have them)
- Your cleansers, toners and moisturizers
- Coarse sea salt
- Plenty of chilled spring water (with a splash of lime or lemon) in the fanciest glass you can find
- Steep a cup of green tea
Let go of your day… your obligations… responsibilities… stress… and strain. Toss out the
barrage of thoughts streaming through your mind (even if it’s just for a moment). Trust me...they’ll still be around later for you to poke at, ponder or peruse.
Try to relax. Take yourself on a far away vacation in your head, tell yourself a “Once Upon A Time” story, remind yourself what a princess you are and remember how essential these precious moments are to your happiness and sanity!
Welcome To Your At Home
Spa Vacation!
1. Take it easy and slow down your breath, your thoughts and your
movements. Put on your favorite CD and start prepping a very
simple shower or bath in a wonderfully slow, deliberate and
unhurried way. Take time to watch the candle burn, smell the
fragrance, feel the soft robe or towels, look at the sparkling drops of
water and run your hands through it… take in the joyful process of
an every day activity that we just fly through without a second
thought!
2. Use essential oils. Not only do they smell great, but they are extremely good for your skin. The
rule to applying essential oils is to never apply them directly on your face or skin. Just
add about five drops to a bowl of warm water. Soak a washcloth in the water and then
apply to your face and neck as a compress for five minutes. Repeat three times. Gently towel dry and finish yourself off with an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory facial splash. If you have a choice of essential oils to choose from, select one that suits your mood and purpose. If you are desparking the stress level this holiday, choose soothing oils (like lavender, chamomile, jasmine, sandalwood and ylang-ylang). Good revitalizing and energizing oils when you need them are peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary, basil and juniper. The aroma can also provide psychological and physical benefits too! Essential oils can help with physical conditions, rejuvenate the skin, eliminate waste, alleviate stress, enhance your mood, restore vitality and facilitate the regeneration of new, healthy cells.
3. Basic Body Scrub and Cleansing If you decided you only have time for an indulgent, relaxing shower… start with a basic body scrub and cleansing. I found this fabulous new product called Spongeables (www.spongeables.com). It’s a soap and a sponge all in one. It lasts for a full month of frothy fragrant showering. My favorite fragrance is fresh lavender…and they have them fragrance free too if that’s more your style. Whatever sponge, cloth or brush you decide on… scrub mindfully and only gently brush your skin. Gentle circular motions will increase your circulation and eliminate toxins and excess water.
Another in home spa trick is to mix an ounce of ground sea salt with 10 or so drops of your favorite essential oil. Add water and make a paste so it spreads easily. Apply it to your entire body and slough off the dead skin with big circular strokes. This salt scrub will exfoliate dead skin cells, cleanse the pores and help your body get rid of any toxins.
4. Draw a bath. Add 5 to 10 drops of an essential oil to bath salts. Grab an extra pillow, put a kitchen trash bag over it to keep it dry and then put a pillow case over that. You just bought yourself 10 extra comfy minutes in the bath tub. You might as well take a book too! Follow it with a warm shower and a dry yourself
off with a fluffy cotton towel. If someone in the house
really loves you… get them to toss it in the dryer for 5
minutes and greet you with fluffy warmth. If you have a
body toning lotion handy, apply to your body (not your
face) for additional firming and toning so you’ll look
even better in that little black dress.
5. Be nice to yourself. These are your precious rejuvenating
moments. Take your time. Pamper yourself and try not
to get caught up in the have-to’s and the should-do’s.
Don’t be in a rush. Not only will you lose some of the
benefits of this quality time to refresh and relax, you
may start sloughing off and using rough, damaging
strokes.
6. Hurrying has its risks. Without slow, mindful, attentive movements, you could cause inflammation and jeopardize that fresh, healthy, glowing complexion that will make you a bright shining super star. You can actually accelerate the aging process by being too rough! Now there’s a good enough reason in and of itself to slow down.
7. Care for your hair. It is taking a beating in these winter elements. Add ¼ ounce of lavender to
sixteen ounces of shampoo. Or for oily hair, add ¼ ounce of lemongrass or rosemary to
16 ounces of shampoo. Essential oils can make invigorating scalp massages. Rosemary is awesome! If you decide not to use the oils, make sure you at least give yourself a long, sudsy scalp massage. Close your eyes, lay your head back and drift for a moment.
8. Replenish lost moisture to your skin and hair this winter by taking two tablespoons of organic flaxseed oil twice a day. You’ll get rid of the itchies and combat wrinkles and sagging skin.
9. Treat your fabulous face. All the treatments above were just for your bod. Your face is special and delicate. The skin on your face is thinner and more fragile than your body. Treat your face with extreme care and gentleness. Even though it’s cold avoid extremely hot water, harsh soaps or any drying cleansers.
Grab a new wash cloth or small sea sponge, add a few drops of your favorite cleanser
(preferably an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory liquid cleanser) and then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Apply face firming treatment then put an ice cube inside of a small plastic bag and gently rub over the face and eye area for several minutes to tone and plump up the skin.
10. Rejuvenate from the inside
Drink 8 to10 glasses of water every day. Eat lots of whole foods, green vegetables, fresh fruits, grains, nuts and lean protein to reduce inflammation, replenish moisture and bring back a youthful glow.
Take 3 full, deep breaths from your abdomen (keep your shoulders still) to complete your simple happy essential home spa experience.
The benefits and joy you experience during your at home spa day will be more colored by your desire and your intentions than any fancy, expensive products you can buy. Be
mindful, set your intentions and gradually transition in to or out of your work day…
always cherishing these simple, sacred rejuvenating moments.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!
My boss had lunch today with a vendor and this other guy and when she got back she was telling us about how rediculous it was. After she went into her office, my co-worker asked me to look at her shoes when she came back......... Yes! She had 2 different black patent leather shoes! Different accross the toes, one was red on the bottom and the other wasn't and the heels were different sizes! Now she is off to the "design center" and we don't believe she knows that they are different :) Can it get any worse?!?!?!? How can you not tell that more toes are hanging out of one shoe than the other!!!! And the heels were completly different!!

My Yearly Horoscope for my Career.....Need I say More???
This year, use your inventive mind and strong intuitive powers to help make some necessary changes in your career. It's time to create harmony with things that haven't quite reached your expectations, letting go of what you think are mistakes, and realizing that these are all stepping stones toward success. As you align yourself to your inner knowing and sharp business sense, your efforts will pay great rewards.
In the springtime, you will feel the urge to travel and connect with other cultures to help expand and enlighten your point of view, broadening your spiritual and intellectual values. Come summer, you may feel a bit introspective and choose to withdraw in order explore the subtle emotions and mystical depths of your being. Work in a mode of love and understanding of humanity, and in service to the life of the planet.
Prosperity is yours as you awaken to what is already inside of you. When you direct your emotions in a positive way, your fears will be released, allowing you to manifest what you want. The more you tap into universal knowledge, the more you are able to connect to your inherent power in a way you never dreamed possible. This is a time of great energy building, preparing you for the success coming in both your public and professional life. In your highest manifestation, your energy is invested in satisfying collective needs for the betterment of society.

So.... we watched Twilight on my husband's new Blu Ray player he got for father's day....I could not tell the difference from a regular dvd. Is this just some ploy to keep us buying new stuff? I REALLY don't get it! Also, the movie itself was just Ok, it started a little slow and really didn't end how I thought it would, but I have not read the books so maybe I just didn't "get it"

Day 2- A Positive Note
Friday June 12, 2009
Woke up 6:30; not so great should have been 5:30 the hair will have have to skip being washed today. TGIF
Alcohol Treats 8; 2 Margarita's and a six pack of Ultra....no excuse except no kid at home tonight
Negative thoughts 1; I had a small case of road rage on the way home today, I do not understand why people are in such a huge hurry these days. Life is going by way to fast as it is! I am very blessed to have all that I do I need to stop and enjoy it for a moment!
Pay it Forwards 0; I will do better next week.
I also found out today it doesn't look like the last job I have at work will be moving forward. Looks like I only have a few months before being laid off. I am positive that the stars will all align in August and everything will work out perfectly! Look at all that positivity just flowing out like crazy! LOL

Channeling Bridget Jones' Technique

There are 4 areas in my life that I am going to try to hold myself accountable and thought I could use this as a recording device, plus it will at the very least make me log on everyday and so then maybe I will get better at not ignoring my blog.
The recorded dates will have to be for the day before because lord knows I do not have the time at night to do this I must do it on company time!
So here is the set-up..........
Thursday June 11, 2009
Got up: 6:00am; I need to start making an effort to get up earlier. I should have got up at 5:30 this morning, but I felt like pure crap so I give myself a freebie just for making it to work at all!
Alcohol Treats: 0; I had none today because I have been fighting a sinus infection but I need to cut down. I get a gold star today on the alcohol treats! Yeah Me! But, the weekend is right around the corner........
Negative Thoughts: 2; I must counter balance these with 2 positive thoughts because I need a better attitude. I am going to start with I have my health and my family's health. This one is going to be one of the hardest so I need to start slow!
Pay it forwards: 1; I am going to try for 3 of these a week to start doing things for others rather than myself. I sent a job lead to a friend out of work today.
Sorry it is a little wordy this time, next time there will be know explaination. Just the results and what was done.
So I challenge you blogging friends and readers please join me in this exercise I think we can all benifit from in this trying time. We need to be a more positive society, with all of this negativity we are fed all day long through our media. I think we can be a great supprt system for one another. So even though it is not New Year's there is my new resolution!

Gotta Love Little Boys
Since I obviously have not had a chance to blog I thought this was too cute! I had to share.
GOTTA LOVE LITTLE BOYS
Two young boys walked into a pharmacy one day, picked out a box of tampons and proceeded to the checkout counter.
The man at the counter asked the older boy, 'Son, how old are you?'
'Eight', the boy replied.
The man continued, 'Do you know what these are used for?'
The boy replied, 'Not exactly, but they aren't for me. They're for him. He's my brother. He's four. We saw on TV that if you use these, you would be able to swim, play tennis and ride a bike. Right now, he can't do none of those things'.

Mothers Day Weekend

Whew! What a week last week! Got back from the beach on Tuesday, was in the office one day, then off to Springfield, MO for a work presentation. On Friday was in a tornado and had to hide in the basement of the hotel with the power out. I did makae it outta ther and home Friday evening, thank goodness!
Had a great weekend! Sat night went to a wine tasting party at my girls house, wow what a blast! I am soo stoked! I joined the club so I will be receiving 2 bottles a month and for a great price I might add!
Sunday for mothers day......My little boy is soo sweet, I just can't stand it! He got me some roses, a bear, and a card, but the best thing in the world was at dinner he sang me a happy mothers day song he had made up all by himself! It was the sweetest thing ever and something I will never forget!
It's back into work mode this week, hopefully it will be a good one!

Calgon Take Me Away!

I have not been a good blogger lately! Maybe it has to do with I am doing every job at my office in a reduced amount of time. The rest of the work world is a long story! even though I have reduced hours I am constantly cleaning up! Why do I think my house should look like no one lives there! I am obcessed! Please....help me let it go!
Then I signed my son up for soccer this season and had NO idea what I was getting myself into in that world! He is four, who knew they would have practice twice a week, plus two games a week. I think that is a little much for a four year old to take on......so now he has decided he doesn't like soccer. I think we will try karate next...
We are headed to the beach for a long weekend family vacation. It will be nice to just be secluded in a house on the beach with out having to watch news about the economy, politics, or the swine flu! Calgon take me away!

SPRING FEVER!!!!!!!!
Are you ready for some yardwork!
Hopefully the weather holds out so we can finish up some backyard projects that have been going on for way too long. Once the pond is redone, I will post some pics! My husband has this new idea to add a waterfall, so we will see how that goes. Then we need to finish his huge-mongus work shop that takes up 1/4 of the back yard. Then just the usual spring pruning, weed killing, and flower planting.
Man, I don't know why but spring fever makes me want to shop soooo bad! I have got to control myself! Maybe it has something to do with out with the old and in with the new. Man, I need some new!
No boss stories this week, she is in Dubai, I am sure to have lots to share next week with that. I am also traveling with her all next week in Colorado, that also makes for some great story telling.
Have a great weekend all!

Watch Out You Just Mught Get What You Wish For
I am soo trying to get this retail thing up and going. I find it hard to half ass do something though. I am an all or nothing kind of girl. I hate that I can't go at at 110%!!! I have had lots of intrest, but it seems once I get buying something I can't get that item anymore! It is very frustrating!! I did place 2 new orders yesterday, so we will see how these items go.
Here is one of the handbags:
Plus, the "shop" that I am going to put them in is still not ready to set up. So everything I have sold is by word of mouth. I am trying to stay on the positive side, but it just seems like it is taking too long to get up and going.
I am headed to Colorado next week to install the last hotel that we have financing for, so keep your fingers crossed that I still have a job when we get back! Or I will havae enough time to put 110% into my shop. I might just get what I have been wishing for!

Some things just are not for Barbie!

OK, I know I don't even have a little girl, but I cannot believe Barbie has come to this!
I heard this morning they have come out with Tatoo Barbie! WHAT! I mean I have nothing against tatoo's, (hell I have 5 of them!) but why the hell (excuse my language) are we saying to young girls that this is a "normal" thing.
Maybe I am over reacting, everyone has the temporary tatoo's for kids these days. I guess it is no different than that. But BARBIE really didn't have to go there did she? I guess once you have White Trash Barbie there is no going back :) HAPPY FRIDAY!

A Great Weekend Getaway

So last minute my husbands brother backed out of a weekend getaway for the company yearly awards banquet. We got the call Thursday morning to see if we could "fill in". After some scrambling to get the day off (not that we have anyting to do anyway), and get a baby sitter and pet sitter for the entire weekend we made it. It was at this great getaway about 30 mins west of Austin called Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort.
We arrived about 4pm on Friday afternoon, it was 90 degrees and beautiful. The banquet was that evening so we didn't get to check much out. Then when we awoke Sat morning it was about 50 degrees and too windy to do anything outside( which is pretty much what this whole place was about). I had tried to book a spa appt when we arrived , but they were already booked! Dang! I could have used that!
I can definatly see us bringing the entire family back here when the weather is nice. It sits in a nature reserve along the Colorado River. They have hiking, fishing, canoeing, rafting, horsback riding and a great water area with slide and lazy river. Then of course the golf and spa. They plan lots of kid activities and are pet friendly. (lots of people walking around with their dogs)
All in all it was a nice weekend, but if you know me and my husband, now we feel guilty for not "getting anything done" this weekend.

Wanna Limbo?

I am feeling a little frustrated about this whole work thing. While I know I am soo lucky still be getting a paycheck, in most ways I am just wishing I could get on with my life. I feel a little like my life is in limbo right now, and I am the type of person that thinks she has to plan everything! So for me not to know what might be next, I would just rather get on with it so I can move to the next chapter.
I have pretty much accepted the fact that once this job ends, I will be without one for a while. So I have been planning things to do around the house, like some MAJOR spring cleaning and organization! I started this weekend with the hall linen closet and a plan for the laundry room witch I will execute next weekend.
My son starts soccer today, so I get to look forward to being a soccer mom this season! YEAH! I think getting back to things that make me truely happy will put things in perspective.
Happy Monday!

Grocery Store Rage

So I was grocery shopping with my 4 year old last night after work, just the usual weekly trip. We had been there about 30 minutes and almost finished, I was headed to the meat and frozen dept. for the the last ticket items. It was little crowded and the older gentleman in front of me was going a little slow, I was being the kind considerate human being and waiting patiently behind him walking just as slow. The lady behind me hits me with her cart, says "EXCUSE ME!" whips around me and squeezes in between us! These are not large isles in this store either, this is not the freeway people(which is a whole other issue)! I said "that was rude" under my breath to my son sittung in the basket. Then he starts saying VERY LOUDLY "what's rude mommy?" "who is being rude?" I don't know if she heard him or not she was on a mission! I explained to him what I was talking about and thought that was a good leasson in manners for my 4 yr old. I had stopped at the meat dept, when I guess she was in "such a hurry" she passed what she needed and came right back up behind us. I saw her out of the corner of my eye and proceeded to take my sweet time chuckling under my breath, when I hear my son say "mommmy there is the rude lady!" I turned around and she was looking right at me! I went on about my buisiness, maybe it made her stop and think? Most likely not!
A little mid-week humor for ya! Lord know we all need it right now!

A dreary depressed day

So here I sit in an empty office all day long. The other designer was let go on Friday. I figure I have another 30-60 days max! Then who knows what.......unemployment I guess. I have been on the job hunt for about 3 months now and it is just getting worse.
I just read this book about how to survive the recession, but it made things seem a little worse than I thought. I guess I want to be prepared, but knowing what I know now is a little more scary. This makes me think of stories I was told by my grandparents and the great depression. I hope it doesn't get that bad!
I know my new years resolution was to slow down, but that was for me personally, not the entire world! You know that saying "Watch what you wish for, you just might get it!" Well I am x3!
It is times like these we just need to get back to the basics of life. Sorry to bring you down!

It's time for the COO-COO Clock!

OH MY GOODNESS!! My boss is a looney bird! So yes the company is in financial distress so she is trying to be "creative" and think of ways to cut back. So as of this week, we can no longer send any FedEx or use our company credit cards without "permssion". Okay that seems resonsable. Then get this she asks me if we unplug the 2 phones that are not being used from the wall how much do I think that will cut our phone bill? What?! Are you kidding me! She really thinks that if you just unplug the phone your phone bill goes down? I had to explain to her that it wouldn't matter if thay are plugged in or not, it is the total amount of phones lines hse is paying for, not the actual phone set being plugged in. And yes, she is the owner of the company people!
Next, she proceeds to tell me that she is going to take these wooden paintbrush's to the showroom and try to sell them to get some extra cash. I had to call a previous designer on this one because she was here when my boss purchased these and I remembered her saying that she paid thousands of dollars for them and thought they were antique. We found them in an online catalog for a couple hundred dollars and most likely imported from China. To make the story even better she is trying to sell them to the same place she bought them from and doesn't even remember that is where she got them. They are going to take one look at those and die laughing.
I heard her on the phone the other day when her personal shopper from Neimans called in. She was asking if she could return a handbag? She thought that is was a little much with the dress, fur, and tote bag! WHAT!!! If you are soo broke why are you buying ANOTHER FUR! HELLO!!! At the end her shopper talked her into keeping the tote too. I know I am bad for evesdropping but I can't resist, in an office this small you know EVERYTHING that goes on!
Maybe once this job is all said and done, I can take this blog and write a book or movie. This has sooo surpassed The Devil Wears Prada a long time ago! I think I will call it Cruella Does Neimans!

Well.....Well.....Well......

Update on the workfront. So my boss took the other last designer and I out to lunch yesterday for a so called celebration because it looks like as of now the residential client is happy again. You know it is bad when you have to almost be drug kicking and screaming to a free lunch with wine!
So we start our lunch and the small talk, then about half way through the meal the bomb drops. She starts in on how we are barely making it and so on, then looks over at the other designer and says "So you know your next"
then pauses for a moment and says "I mean not to be laid off, but to have your hours cut" then the table had an awkward silence before we grabbed our purses and said, "Well I guess we should go now"
So just as one more pay period passes since our last lay off, looks like another is headed this way before the end of the short month of Feb. This is not a big company folks (we are down to 2 of us, it was 4 when then all started in Nov)! If she can't even make it for even 30 days without a layoff in a company this small we are in some serious trouble!
We had our presentation for the Marriott project, a project my boss has been taking the lead on, this was my first time to present this project. She has been working on it for over a year! Let's just say I am going to basically take the driver seat going forward because she has absolutely NO CLUE! I need to get this done and get it done quick! The project is already under construction and has gotten no where with her making the decisions.
So tell me how do I take control of this project and move forward without including her? Since she has no company money for her to go shopping to Neimans she is here everyday, so it's not as easy as it was before to run things without her knowledge. I am going banana's with her here everyday trung to run things! Doesn't she know we can do it without her, but she cannot do it without us! She needs to sit back and shut up and let us get this done before she can't afford to pay us to finish it!

So far nothing....

Well so far I haven't heard anything on the job I applied for. I have since sent out 3 more resume's, so we can just hope for the best in these economical times!
On another note we are supposed to go to Washington DC tomorrow to present to Marriott for the last job we have to do here at this time. Hopefully things will go well, you can never tell with Marriott! This is the second time we have had to reschedule this trip due to weather, and now the weather is bad again.....you think someone is trying to tell us something??????
My boss has pretty much told me if something comes along to take it, so I take that as I'm next on the chopping block! So please keep me in your thoughts that something new comes through soon!

I did it!
I can't believe I sent my resume out! I feel fate may be on my side, I have been wanting a sales rep position for about 6 months now, and low and behold one came up yesterday! Bad news is could be a lot of travel, good news is I would be working at home for the most part.
Off the work subject for a while my son has been doing so much better since the reduction in hours. Life at home is soo much better! I am usually home now before I used to leave the office. It's GREATNESS! I have been walking the new dog and actually been able to get some things done during the week.
Good Vibes, Good Vibes, Good Vibes!

Can I Vent Please!

Ok, I let it go on Friday, but again today is enough! So my boss is the owner of this company,......right?
First of all let me just say that if the two of us that are still here didn't come back, she would be up sh*t creek. She doesn't know anything about her own company. She gave me an item of agenda to do today, which was no big deal. The problem is I do not have the application on MY computer to do it. The person that does is the one that is part time now and wasn't here today. So she FREAKS out on me because I do not know her passwords to get into her computer! EXCUSE ME! Isn't this YOUR business, shouldn't YOU know that information? It's not like it's a login password, it is the password to open the book keeping program, you would think that would be important for the OWNER to have?!?!?!?
Second, she is about to get basically sued by one of our residential clients for not doing what she is supposed to. She received a letter from them last week, and has spent over a week trying to prepeare a response. So on Friday she forwards me 3 emails that she had started and asked me to put them all together in a document. She cannot even create a word document people! Then once I opened the emails she realized how bad it really was! Spelling, allignment, it was just plain confsuing! I cannot beleive she was actually going to send this out! I sucked it up and spent half the day creating this document, which she changes twice on Friday.
Monday morning, another change was sitting on my desk! To make an extremely frustrating story short I have changed it 5 more times today, and have got none of my REAL work done! Which she is going to ask about first thing in the morning!
Sorry, just had to get this off my chest! She is the owner of the company and cannot type a word document or email! This proves that some people do not work hard, they just get lucky!

New Year....New Things!

Well 2009 brought about a large change in my work life. I am now working reduced hours 9-3. While the welcoming hours are nice,(since I have such a long commute)the terror of that first 20% reduced paycheck is starting to set in! Don't get me wrong this week has been soooooo nice! It only takes me an hour and a half once I leave the office, pick up my boy, and get home(it used to be 2 and a half hours. Not to mention my son has been an angel this week, I know that schedule was taking a toll on us both. Now I just hope I can hang in here until the school year is over :P)
On a good note, IT'S FRIDAY and it's 3:00, so I'm outta here!
PEACE!
